Murrays Brewing co. is our brewery in focus for June 2015. Every month we’ll be looking at a different Australian brewery. If you’ve got a favourite that you think Australia should know about, then shoot us an email to [email protected] or reach out to us on Facebook.
Something special has been happening to the Australian beer culture over the past decade or so. Large commercial breweries who have long dominated the landscape have seen sales drop to the lowest they’ve been in half a century. That drop in sales has been due to a decline in total beer consumption by Australians, and a growing trend of Aussie blokes starting to appreciate quality over quantity. The quality I’m referring to is the plethora of craft beers being brewed across the country.
Murray’s Craft Brewing Co. on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales are responsible for part of that quality. What started with the sip of a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale at a roadside diner in California, has culminated in the picturesque brewery at Bob’s Farm, Port Stephens, and a vast array of delicious brews.
Murray’s Brewing Co. typify everything we love about Australian craft brewing: natural, authentic beers that are big on taste, coupled with an artisan feel and cultural relevance. Their beer art mimics the brews themselves and each new brew has it’s own distinct personality. Their mainstays include the Angry Man Pale Ale, an American Pale ale whose art is reminiscent of Australia in times gone past (if one can remember punching on with a roo that is), and the Czeck style Pilsner, Rude Boy, whose art could well pass as a 70’s Brit-Rock vinyl.
Whilst a host of other off-beat beers round off their mainstays, collaboration, celebration, and limited edition brews are often created. No matter what beer or art they end up producing, the one promise is it will be “bland-free” and totally unique, along with it’s art and character.
If you’re a lover of top quality beer, and appreciate the art of brewing and design, then a visit to Murray’s home at Bob’s Farm should be on your bucket list. For now though, check out them out online and even order a sampling case. You won’t be disappointed.
